Solar installers are today protesting outside the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews’ office amidst claims rebates imposed by the government are killing the solar industry.

The Smart Energy Council surveyed Victorian solar installation businesses and found the Solar Homes Scheme is leading to as many as 78 per cent facing closure.

Solar installers are calling for the Premier to urgently fix the system, to increase monthly allocations and the “broken” application system.

This month, the total number of allocations for rebates was exhausted within 90 minutes, putting the industry into another month of heavy losses.

Mr Andrews said the number of rebates was capped to ensure safety but has given the industry a ray of hope in stating, “I am happy to look at expanding the number of installations each month but I will only do that if I can be completely confident that high quality can be observed”.
