Port hedland council sheds light on massive solar farm plans

The New South Wales town of Port Hedland could soon become home to Australia’s largest solar farm.

A 100ha site near the airport of the coastal town has been identified as the site of the solar farm, with reports suggesting the development would have a capacity of around 6MW, supplementing the region’s stretched power supply, as reported by ABC News.

A 20ha area is likely to be developed as part of the pilot project.

The local council has selected Sydney company BeauSol/First Solar as the preferred developer of the development’s first phase. Beau Sol/First Solar currently operate a solar farm in Geraldton, south of Sydney.

The project was available for public comment until mid-January.
