Innovation in light-weight vacuum testing recognised

Wood Group Kenny (WGK) is celebrating a double success after winning two highly prestigious awards at the Subsea Energy Australia (SEA) 2013 Business Awards. WGK’s first win was the Industry Innovation and Technology award, in recognition of the lightweight riser vacuum testing equipment designed in-house. Vacuum testing systems, which evolved in the North Sea, are traditionally large and heavy and transported in a four-tonne container via road and offshore supply vessel.

By contrast, WGK’s tool weighs just 40kg compared, allowing the equipment to be mobilised to remote locations in a fraction of the time via helicopter. The innovation has now been successfully brought to market for a range of WGK clients globally who have recognised total inspection cost savings of
60 per cent as well as more accurate and reliable results.

WGK also took home the Safety Leadership award in recognition of 14 years without any lost time incidents.

In addition, a special commendation was awarded for WGK’s Behavioural Based Safety program, which is designed to raise individual’s safety awareness and risk anticipation 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
