The NSW Independent Planning Commission has given the Bango Wind Farm the go-ahead to begin construction.

The 71-turbine project, located 30km north of Yass, is being developed by CWP Renewables.

“We have been working with government agencies and the local community over many years to ensure this project balances social, environmental and economic needs,” CWP development manager Kristy Old said.

The project is expected to create 150 full-time jobs during construction, and 10 ongoing roles.

During its 25-year operational life, the wind farm will contribute more than $12 million to Yass Valley and Hilltops Councils through rate returns and community enhancement funds.

“In addition, the 525GWh per year of electricity produced by the Bango Wind Farm will replace an equivalent amount of higher cost, higher emission electricity,” Ms Old said.
