Tesla to build second big battery in Australia

The 100MW Tesla-built battery at Neoen's Hornsdale Wind Farm

Following the success of its 100MW lithium-ion battery at Hornsdale Wind Farm in South Australia, Tesla has been selected by the Victorian government to construct a 20MW battery system.

The battery will be used to support the upcoming Bulgana Green Power Hub – a 204MW wind farm to be built by French energy company Neoen, scheduled to be operational in mid-2019.

“The performance of the South Australian battery is outstanding,” Neoen managing director Franck Woitiez said.

“The Bulgana battery is primarily going to provide energy to Nectar Farms and may support the grid in the future.”

The expected timeframe for the battery’s construction is approximately 18 months.
