Summer snow cuts power in Tasmania

Summer snow fell in the highlands of Tasmania over the weekend, with adverse weather alerts and power outages for many residents in the southern Australian island state.

Up to 40cm of snow fell in the state’s central highlands, just days after temperatures shot to record levels. Power cuts had hit more than 2,500 homes by Sunday afternoon, The Mercury reported.

Tasmanian police also warned motorists to stay alert on the road after more than 30mm of rain fell in the state’s southern and eastern areas, despite the weather forecast at the start of the week being “mostly fine statewide.”
