In preparation for an anticipated extended fire season in East Gippsland, AusNet Services is undertaking a large-scale maintenance program on powerlines connecting Bairnsdale to Mallacoota.
The fire season preparation work, part of Ausnet’s Summer Safety Program, will be conducted on October 13-14 with a power supply shutdown for both days.
AusNet customer support manager Derek Walton said all measures had been taken to limit the electricity disruptions to residents and businesses.
“We’ve been working closely with the East Gippsland community in planning these important power outages,” Mr Walton said.
“Crews from across our entire network will help complete the work in two days.
“Condensing the work into one weekend means customers reliant on these powerlines won’t be inconvenienced by weeks of ongoing outages to complete the necessary work before the bushfire and tourism season begins.”
While the program is yet to be finalised, its anticipated the outages will impact residents and businesses on both days of the weekend in the areas of Bruthen, Swifts Creek, Omeo, Nowa Nowa, Buchan, Orbost, Cann River and Mallacoota.
Electricity supply will be restored overnight to minimise the impact.
The weekend shutdowns will provide 200 lines people safe access to replace approximately 90 power poles, 80 cross arms and another 390 maintenance items as part of the safety enhancement program.
Notification letters with details of the electricity outage and tips for being without electricity will be issued to impacted customers prior to the outage.
